Brief History and Activities of Unani Services, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow
Unani medicine has been practiced in India since ancient times. This system of medicine originated in Greece, passed through Arabia, and became popular in India. India has a rich collection of herbs, making it highly effective and popular here.
To promote and regulate the Unani system of medicine, the Uttar Pradesh Government established the separate Directorate of Unani on October 11, 2008.
In the state, there are two government-run Unani medical colleges and affiliated hospitals with 100 beds in operation.
The Government Unani Medical Colleges are located in the districts of Lucknow and Prayagraj. The Government Takmeel Utteeb College in Lucknow (established in 1902) is affiliated with Lucknow University, and the Government Unani Medical College in Prayagraj (established in 1904) is affiliated with Prof. Rajendra Singh (Rajjoo Bhayya) University, Prayagraj. From the academic session 2021-22, both colleges are affiliated with Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, Gorakhpur.
